Chess in Oslo

The Good Knight was a venue for the 2026 Norway Chess Open, so it is a natural stop in Norway Chess season.

The Good Knight

A bar in central Oslo built around chess. Its event calendar lists an AfterWork Blitz and the Popcorn League.

Address:: Badstugata 9, 0183 Oslo
Visitors:: Walk-in, and you can borrow boards and pieces. There is a 20-year age limit from 18:00.
Hours:: Monday to Thursday 15:00–00:00, Friday and Saturday 15:00–02:00, closed Sunday. Hours can change in summer and at Christmas and Easter, and the bar's English page gives a Saturday opening of 13:00, so check before you go.

Chess club

Oslo Schakselskap (OSS)

Regular playing evenings, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a Tuesday Lightning (blitz) night every week.

Address:: Bogstadveien 30, 7th floor, 0355 Oslo (ring the bell downstairs)
Visitors:: Visitors are welcome by arrangement. The club asks you to e-mail first so that someone can meet you.
Hours:: Usually weekdays 18:00–23:00 and weekends and holidays 15:00–23:00, but there are no fixed times.
